CNN: What’s the best city in America?
Friday, March 7th, 2008The water is good, but watch out for the cave dwellers
Thursday, January 10th, 2008After overnight stops in Chicago (scheduled) and Puerto Rico (unscheduled, apparently the communication system for the Aruba airport does not have a battery backup) we’ve been in Aruba since Monday.
While there’s not a whole lot to do here, we’ve had two interesting wildlife experiences so far… leading my wife to compare the trip to two of our favorite horror movies, The Descent and The Hills Have Eyes.

Pick a number between one and 53…
Saturday, December 8th, 2007Just off the top of your head… we’re waiting.
From the NYT: The 53 Places to Go in 2008. We picked #13 Sylt (known for nude beaches) and #27 Buenos Aires (for the first five-star gay hotel in Latin America). Sounds like quite a trip.
Why does the LAX terminal 3 food suck so much
Thursday, September 27th, 2007When you fly out of terminal 3 at LAX (Alaska and a couple other small airlines) the food choices consist of Starbucks, Burger King, a CPK “Express” (how can a place that calls itself CPK not have pizza?) and some crappy sports bar. This is 2007 people! Airports like Seattle, Denver and SF all have kick ass food… why in the world does LAX suck so much? You can’t eat muffins for dinner and I’m never, ever going back to BK. Only choice is some crappy hot dogs or (my choice tonight) a chicken quesadilla.
limo4me: the best Seattle town car service
Thursday, September 27th, 2007Because my 2002 post about flying to Phoenix somehow gets enough search traffic that somebody recently offered me $35 to place an ad on that page (still waiting on the reply!), I thought I would point out a business I’ve been using and highly recommend.
When we moved to Seattle two years ago, I knew very quickly that I would need a dependable town car service to the airport. Taxis are more expensive from our house (when they show up) so I looked around a bit. The guys at Limo4me.net have been on time absolutely every time I’ve called and have reasonable rates. What more could you ask for?
Saturday night in a yurt
Monday, September 24th, 2007We spent Saturday in Yurt #4 in the Yurts at Kayak Point. If you haven’t spent a night in a yurt before, I highly recommend it.
While it was certainly exciting when our key would no longer open the deadbolt and the park ranger had to break the window (okay, pry out the plexiglass) to open our door; what we most enjoyed was Niko’s first experience with a sleeping bag.
CNN goes to Ithaca
Monday, September 17th, 2007From CNN.com (thanks Thanh): In the lush land of the Finger Lakes.
Lately we’ve been thinking about Ithaca and the farmer’s market and Solaz Burritos and the apples (and apple donuts mmmm)…
If it’s not one thing it’s another
Friday, July 7th, 2006The good news: your company’s annual worldwide sales meeting is in Paris.
The bad news: the meeting is over a weekend (will need precious vacation time for anything fun), and your hotel is cultural f’ing wasteland Disneyland Paris, 45 minutes outside the city.
Train to the Roof of the World
Friday, June 30th, 2006Wired Mag: Train to the Roof of the World: “In its entirety, the Qinghai-Tibet railway stretches 1,215 miles, and most of the new portion runs over terrain with elevations between 13,000 and 16,000 feet – cruising altitude for some commuter flights.”
Why can China build a train like that while we can’t build a simple high speed line between Seattle and Portland?
Back on the road
Thursday, September 15th, 2005Am I the only person annoyed by airport security when they say
We suggest that you remove you shoes.
WTF does this mean? What happens if I choose not to take off my shoes? Will rapid rabid (vapid?) dogs chase after me, or will I be fine if I pass through the metal detector without a beep? The ambiguity in that suggestion has always bugged me.
